Description

This lithograph depicts the surrender of Confederate General Robert E. Lee and his army to Union General Ulysses S. Grant on April 9, 1865, near Appomattox Court House in Virginia effectively ending the Civil War. General Lee and General Grant are shown in the center foreground with their respective armies gathered behind them. Some men are on horseback; however most are on foot. Several carry flags.
