Letter, 20 cm, headed Old Capitol Prison, asking Thompson ""to use your influence with the Secretary of War"" to help Dr. Jones, his cousin, get paroled. Jones claims he will quit the service, never take up arms against the Union, and go to Florida for his health. Signed James F. Jones, Private 4th Va Cavalry. Includes envelope, 8 x 14 cm, torn along top, postmarked Washington, stamped by Provost Marshall and approved by J.W. Sturtevant.
