Description
This lithograph depicts the execution of four of the conspirators who worked with John Wilkes Booth to implement the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln and other governement officials on April 14, 1865, in Washington, D. C. The execution occurred on July 7, 1865, The gallows are in the center of the image showing the four conspirators hooded and hanging by the ropes around their necks. To the viewer's right are soldiers standing in front of a crowd of civilian spectators. To the viewer's left of the gallows are a row of clergymen in front of a row of soldiers.
