Description

This hand-tinted engraving features a composite portrait of President Abraham Lincoln in which the engraver placed the head of Lincoln on the body of Frank P. Blair. Sartain had done an engraving of Blair after F. T. L. Boyle's 1862 painting of Blair. He engraved Lincoln's head from a photograph taken of him in 1864. Lincoln is shown seated turned slightly to the viewer's left with his right arm resting on a table while facing the viewer. There are several books, papers, a lamp and a bust on the table. A globe and a rolled docmuent are in the viewer's lower right corner. The words "Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States" are printed below the image.
