Description

This color poster features ten illustrations of life from 1857 to1877, the first 20 years of publication of Harper's Weekly, A Journal of Civilization. Set against a yellow with orange wash background, the ten illustrations have the following captions: John Brown--Slave Auction; Civil War; 1865; Plantation Life; Freedom--Freedom; The West; P. T. Barnum; Industrialization; The Centennial, 1876; and East Meets West. Decorative floral vines wrap around the illustrations. An illustration of the head and shoulders of President Abraham Lincoln is between the two center images.
