The Lincoln home : Springfield, Illinois, the only home ever owned by Abraham Lincoln was purchased in 1844 and occupied by the Lincoln family until 1861 when the martyred president left for Washington, D.C., February 11th, Robert Todd Lincoln, the eldest son, gave the home to the people of the state of Illinois in 1887 : since that date the home has been preserved as it was at the time the presentation was made, now for the first time, it is being restored to resemble the home Lincoln left in 1861.
