Description:
Handwritten document, 31 cm, signed by E.L. and Clarinda (by her mark) Waller granting power of attorney to Clifton H. Moon, Abraham Lincoln, and Asabel Gridley for the purpose of appearing on their behalf in the mortgage foreclosure suit brought by the Hickox brothers. Docketed on verso by John McGraw, clerk of De Witt County. Waller and his wife gave Hickox three promissory notes and secured them with a mortgage on eighty acres and part of a lot. After the Wallers failed to pay the $2,164.47 balance on the notes, Hickox sued to foreclose the mortgage. The Wallers gave Lincoln power of attorney to confess judgment, and the court ordered the Wallers to pay Hickox $2,164.81 within sixty days. The Wallers failed to pay, and the court sold the property to satisfy the judgment.
