Description

This tinted postcard features a view of the bronze statue of President Abraham Lincoln, designed by Randolph Rogers, located in Fairmount Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dedicated in 1871, President Lincoln is depicted seated and holding a quill pen in his right hand and a document in his left hand to portray the idea that he just finished signing the Emancipation Proclamation. The base of the statue holds on each of the four sides a plaque with a well-known Lincoln quotation. The image is surrounded by a white border with the caption printed in the top and bottom margins. The postcard reverse is divided. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
