Description

This postcard is a photograph of the Infantry Group, one of four bronze sculptures anchoring the corners of the Lincoln Monument in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield, Ill. Designed by Larkin Mead, the Infantry Group was donated by the city of Chicago. It depicts soldiers who just survived an ambush and are on the march preparing to charge. The officer in command has seized the flag in one hand and with the other he points in the direction of the enemy and orders the charge. Even the drummer boy has drawn his revolver. The caption is printed below the image near the lower edge. The postcard reverse is divided. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
