Description
This print featuring a full-length portrait of President Abraham Lincoln was cut from the outside cover of the February 13, 1909, issue of "Harper's Weekly, A Journal of Civilization." The portrait was done by artist Edwin F. Bayha showing President Lincoln partially seated in a chair with his right hip resting on the seat, his left foot behind with the knee almost touching the floor, and his right arm resting on the armrest. His cloak is hanging over the armrest. The President's head is down with a sad expression on his face and he is shown holding a document that could be a telegram in his left hand with another document on the floor by his right foot. President Lincoln's whole body gives the impression that he is bearing a heavy weight. The title of the portrait is shown just above Lincoln's head. The artist's name and date are printed below Lincoln's left knee. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
