Dear Sir:
I beg to enclose for your consideration the application of late fireman F. R. Foask [?] one of my constituents to be enlisted in the Navy as a machinist. I have known his father, a Baptist Clergy man for a long time, & I have known the reputation of his son F. R. for years as an intelligent and skillful R. R. mechanic & engineer; though as you will see he is somewhat liberal in his spelling. I have do no doubt of his deserving such a place as he seeks, He is just off the Tennessee with a clean certificate.
Very truly yours
Geo. Edmunds
