Description

This unusual poster features a reproduction of a half-length watercolor portrait of President Abraham Lincoln by artist T. Hamilton Crawford. A note in gold-colored ink in the viewer's lower left corner states, "Abraham Lincoln from the Braady photograph presented to The Lincoln National Life Insurance Company as its insignia by Robert T. Lincoln, his son." When the bottom of this poster is lifted to view the reverse, a Cotton Club advertisement and calendar are seen. At the top of the reverse is an image of three bathing suit-clad women in various seated poses against a royal blue background. The bottom half of this side of the poster reads "Cotton Club Beverages, a Miller-Becker Product." A calendar for the year 1938 is printed below. A note from the artist of the original pastel is shown in a box below the calendar. It begins "Gentlemen Prefer--Here you are! Just what gentlemen prefer! A red-head, a brunette and a blonde, young and lovely and curvesome!..." The two sides of the poster were printed upside down to each other so that by lifting the bottom of one side of the poster the viewer can see the opposite side correctly oriented.
