Description

This colored chromolithograph is a head and shoulders portrait of President Abraham Lincoln. He is posed with his head turned towards the viewer's right. He wears a black suit jacket, vest, bow tie, and a white shirt. One of the most popular prints of Lincoln in the 19th century, this chromolithograph on canvas is based on a photograph of Lincoln taken by Anthony Berger on February 9, 1864, at Matthew Brady's Washington gallery. This print belonged to William H. Herndon, Lincoln's third law partner. For more information on this Middleton chromolithograph, see "Lincoln Lore" number 1585, March, 1970, page 3.
