Description

This hand-colored lithograph depicts the artist's version of the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln at Ford's Theatre, Washington, D.C., on the night of April 14, 1865. President Lincoln, Mrs. Lincoln, Major Rathbone, and Clara Harris are shown seated in the presidential box facing toward the stage. John Wilkes Booth is shown standing behind President Lincoln firing a revolver held in his extended right hand while holding a dagger in his left hand. Mrs. Lincoln is shown with her head turned to her left and with her hands up in the air as if reacting in surprise. The publisher's information and the title "Assassination of President Lincoln, Ford's Theatre, Washington, April 14, 1865 are printed in the margin below the image.
