Description

This is a pen and ink reproduction of the calligraphic head and shoulders portrait of President Abraham Lincoln formed within the handwritten text of the Emancipation Proclamation originally done by W. H. Pratt in 1865. The artist wrote parts of the text in bold to form the portrait based on a photograph taken of President Lincoln on February 9, 1864, in Washington, D. C. The text was written to fit inside of the decorative oval border. Above the border the title is written in a matching arc with decorative swirls on each side. Below the border is Lincoln's name with decorative swirls at each end. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
