Description

This color postcard features the heroic-sized bronze statue by sculptor Avard Fairbanks dedicated in 1959 in Berwyn, Illinois. Abraham Lincoln is shown in a walking pose with his right hand on the shoulder of a young boy and his left arm in the grasp of the young girl on his left. The statue rests on a pedestal inscribed with the title and a quotation from a letter written in 1849 by Lincoln to his friend Judge Joseph Gillespie: "The better part of one's life consists of his friendships." The postcard reverse is divided and has narrative text printed on the left side. The number 46937-B is printed in the lower left corner.
