Description

This linen postcard features the Abraham Lincoln Memorial located in Council Bluffs, Iowa. This pylon was erected in July 1911 and commemorates Abraham Lincoln's visit to the site in 1859. From this site, Lincoln, along with Grenville M. Dodge, viewed and selected the location for the eastern terminus of the nation's first transcontinental railroad. The memorial also includes a curved length of benches with lamps attached to the supports at the ends and between benches. A hint of the town can been seen in the background. The image is surrounded by a white border with the caption printed in the top margin. The number 88508-N is printed in the lower right corner of the border. The postcard reverse is divided.
