Description

This poster is a reproduction of an original $100,000 reward poster issued on April 20, 1865, by the War Department for the capture of John Wilkes Booth and his accomplices John H. Surratt, and David C. Harold. At the top of the poster are three red rectangular frames in which are photographs of each of the three wanted men. The text color alternates between black and red with the words "The Murderer" and the amount of the reward for each man printed in red ink. At the end of the poster is "Notice.--In addition to the above, State and other authorities have offered rewards amounting to almost one hundred thousand dollars, making an aggregate of about TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS." The publisher's information is just above the bottom edge in the corners. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
