Undated handwritten petition, 36 cm, stating "the undersigned citizens of the State of Illinois, would respectfully recommend John M. Blackburn, Esq. of Paris, Illinois as a suitable person for the office of Circuit and District Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois." Docketed on verso: "This paper is from the ex Gov, & Lieut Gov, the present Gov, the state officers, and other prominent and highly influential gentleman all of Illinois. J. H. Moore, 7th Dist. Ill." John W. Blackburn was a Republican and Presidential Elector for Illinois, 1868.
