Description

This painting features a head and shoulders portrait of President Abraham Lincoln . He is wearing a black suit, vest, bow tie and a white collared shirt. Lincoln has brown eyes, hair and beard. His cheeks are slightly rosy and he is turned slightly to the right. The corner of the chair in which Lincoln is sitting is seen on the left. The artist's signature and the date are found just above Lincoln's left arm and just inside the lower right edge of the oval. Jarvis based his portrait on a photograph for which Lincoln posed in February of 1865. For more information on this painting see "Lincoln Lore" Number 1709, July 1980, pages 1-2.
