Description

This color postcard features the home of the Abraham Lincoln family located in Springfield, Illinois, on the northeast corner of Eighth and Jackson Streets. Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln and their infant son, Robert, moved into the home in 1844. This was their home until they left for President-elect Lincoln's inauguration in Washington, D. C., in early 1861. The postcard reverse is divided. The caption is printed on the left side. A handwritten note in blue ink from Bob to Alice O'Reilly of Fort Wayne, Indiana, is also on the left side. The LaSalle, Illinois, postmark is dated February 12, 1976. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
