- Handwritten letter, 20 cm, dated 'Near Petersburg, Monday Sept. 5th 1864,' addressed to 'Dear Sister,' and signed 'your aff. brother, Alfred Carmon.' Describes soldier's enthusiasm for 'little Mac' as the Democrats' presidential candidate -- 'old Abe is completely cast in the shade' -- and excitement over the fall of Atlanta. Comments on new draft law, camp life, and delayed pay. Envelope, 7 x 14 cm, is addressed to 'Miss Lottie Carmon, Sand Lake, Rens Co., NY' and franked and stamped.
