Description:
Handwritten report, 32 cm, headed "U.S.S. 'Saratoga' Duboy Sound, Ga, Augst 5th, 1864," directed to "Command. Geo M Colvocoresses U.S.N., Comdg USS Saratoga, Duboy Sound, Ga." and signed "Winthrop Butler, AASurg, USN." A detailed account of '"the proceedings of an expedition which left this ship on the afternoon of August second, the object of which was the capture of all persons answering the call of a certain Colonel Coulden of the Revel service ... at a certain building ... called 'Ebenezer Church' for the purpose of forming themselves into a 'Coast Guard' to act with a portion of the regular Confederate Army." Docketed on verso "Report of Raid, August 5th 1864."
