Description
This lithograph commemorates the lives of three United States presidents who were assassinated while in office. At the top is an eagle holding in its claws a shield with information about the life of the most recently martyred president in 1901, William McKinley, whose portrait is just below the shield. To the viewer's left is a portrait of Abraham Lincoln, the first United States president to be assassinated in 1865. Just below his left shoulder is a scroll with his biographical information. To the viewer's right is a portrait of United States president James Garfield who was assassinated while in office in 1881. Just below his right shoulder is a scroll with his biographical information. Beneath the three portraits is a photograph of the Capitol Building in Washington, D. C., and in front of it are four flagpoles positioned at about a 45 degree angle with the ends of the poles crossed and tied. Below the flags is the title with the publisher's information printed in both lower corners. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
