Description

This line and stipple engraving by A. H. Ritchie features a head and shoulders portrait of President Abraham Lincoln done after a photograph taken of him on February 9, 1864, in Washington, D. C. He posed facing slightly toward the viewer's left with his head turned slightly toward the viewer's right. Lincoln is wearing a dark jacket and vest, along with a white button-down collared shirt and black bow tie. The slight outline of a pocket watch chain is visible at the second button of the vest, There is a circle of shadow that begins at the pocket watch chain on Lincoln's vest and encompasses his shoulders before coming to a complete circle above his head. "Abraham Lincoln, 16th President of the United States." appears in block letters below the image. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
