Handwritten letter, 21 cm, on patriotic letterhead, dated 'Culpepper, Va., Oct. 3rd 1863' and addressed to 'My Dear Mother.' Bradlee responds to a letter from his mother, complains of not yet receiving his commission and of 'mental troubles, that are still my waking and sleeping companions,' says he will write his sister, Annie, when he has time, and refers to a wife and children at home. Envelope, 8 x 14 cm, is stamped and franked and addressed to 'Mrs. M.A. Bradlee, No. 6 Marion Street, Boston, Mass.'
