Description

This postcard features a quotation from President Abraham Lincoln which was part of his response to a group who serenaded him after the 1864 presidential election in which he was elected for a second term. The quotation printed in blue ink reads: "Gold is good in its place, but living, brave, patriotic men are better than gold." The quote is surrounded by a decorative, gold-colored frame that takes up the rest of the front of the post card. A small, circular-cut portrait of President Lincoln is to the left of the quotation. The postcard reverse is divided. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
