Description

This watercolor wash features a head and shoulders portrait of President Abraham Lincoln. He is depicted turned slightly toward the viewer's right. Lincoln's suit jacket, vest, and bow tie are dark with washes of varying shades of blue, green, and violet. His hair and beard are colored with washes of varying hues of green, and his cheeks are highlighted with a rosy shade of pink. A miniature version of Paul Manship's sculpture titled "The Hoosier Youth" appears to be leaning against Lincoln's left shoulder. The younger Lincoln is painted in washes of violet, blue, and green. An enlarged image of the Presidential Seal appears in the background. The words of the seal are painted in a light shade of blue-gray while the eagle and olive branch are painted a very light gray.
