Description

This lithograph features a composite portrait composed of the head of President Abraham Lincoln placed on the body of a shorter and heavier statesman. This was probably done by printers using a previously printed stone and replacing the head to get out a new print in a hurry. President Lincoln is depicted standing with left leg bent at the knee and with his left hand tucked into his coat above the waist. He is holding a rolled document in his right hand with his elbow resting on the pillar behind him. He wears a black tailcoat and bowtie. The Capitol Building can be faintly seen in the background. A facsimile Lincoln signature is printed in the bottom margin with the title printed beneath. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
