Description

a) This color print, done from a painting by J. Johnson, features President Abraham Lincoln standing in a room with three men. One man stands with his back to the viewer to Lincoln's right, another stands to his left, and a third man stands in front of Lincoln's desk while shaking his hand. The three men all wear dark jackets, white collared shirts, and black bow ties. There is a red chair in front of Lincoln's desk, and a fireplace with a clock and large mirror on the mantle. A chandelier hangs in the upper right corner of the print, and a bookshelf stands off to the left of the fireplace with a portrait of President Andrew Jackson on the wall above it. A window is directly behind Lincoln, and has burgundy draperies with green and gold tassels. The artist's signature, "J. Johnson" is printed in the lower right corner of the image. "President Lincoln Keeps Union Shipping Under Sail - 1864" is printed below the print in the lower left corner. b) This small insert gives a description of the print. Below the main copy reads, "An incident from the records in the Marine Library of The Atlantic Companies. Atlantic Mutual - Centennial" Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
