Description
This lithograph is a composite of the family of President Abraham Lincoln gathered together in a parlor setting. Since the Lincoln family never posed together for any artist or photographer, many artists used photographs of the individuals to compose a family scene for publishing after Lincoln's death. In this print Mrs. Lincoln is seated to the viewer's left. She is holding a book in her left hand. The oldest son, Robert, dressed in his military uniform stands to the left of his mother with his right hand on the back of her chair. Tad, the youngest Lincoln son, stands between Robert and his father. President Lincoln is seated at Tad's left holding a book that he and Tad are sharing. A portrait of Willie, who died in 1862, hangs on the wall behind the president's chair. A small round table with a book on it is beside President Lincoln's chair. The title and publisher's information are in the margin below the image. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
