Description:
Handwritten letter, 25 cm, dated 'U.S. Military Prison, Johnson's Island, O., Apr. 14th 1865' and headed 'Mr. M.F. Luch.' The author is possibly Confederate soldier John Williams, a 2nd Lieutenant in the 50th Tennessee regiment who was captured at Ft. Donaldson. Williams reflects on his imminent release, the Confederacy's defeat and Lincoln's future. He mentions other members of his brigade (Walters, Sargent, and Lt. W. G. Bissonet) and asks for $25 to buy clothing.
