Description

This wood engraving features a memorial portrait of Hon. Stephen A. Douglas, one of President Lincoln's opponents in the 1860 presidential election. Done from a photograph taken of Douglas in Washington, D. C., he his depicted standing in a library setting with his left hand resting on the chair beside him. This print was clipped from the June 8, 1861, issue of Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper published just a few days after Douglas's death on June 3, 1861.
