Description

This print is a reproduction of the calligraphic head and shoulders portrait of President Abraham Lincoln formed within the handwritten text of the Emancipation Proclamation originally done by W. H. Pratt in 1865. The artist wrote parts of the text in bold to form the portrait based on a photograph taken of President Lincoln on February 9, 1864, in Washington, D. C. The text was written to fit inside of the decorative oval border. Above the border the title is written in a matching arc with decorative swirls on each side. Lincoln's name with decorative swirls at each end is printed in an arc below the border. This reproduction includes the addition of a 48 star American flag in color just beneath the title and the phrase "Son of Democracy" just beneath Lincoln's name in the lower margin. The publisher's information is in the viewer's lower left corner with his handwritten signature in blue ink just above.
