Description

Chromolithograph depicts the Battle of Gettysburg. Soldiers charge on foot and horseback toward the right of the composition, clashing with their opposition across the middle ground. A wagon pulls a large artillery cannon in the foreground. The dirt field is beaten down with little patches of rocks and grass. Smoke can be seen rising up from the battle in the background. For more information on this and other Prang Civil War chromolithographs, see Prang's Civil War Pictures: the Complete Battle Chromos of Louis Prang with the Full "Descriptive Texts" edited and with an introduction by Harold Holzer.
