Description

This print is an artists proof of an etching of a head and shoulders portrait of a bearded Abraham Lincoln by Thomas Johnson. Lincoln is depicted facing the viewer's left. He is wearing a dark suit coat. The artist's signature is placed at the end of the left lapel. There is an etching of a small log cabin directly under the etching of Lincoln. To the left and slightly above the log cabin is a facsimile Lincoln signature followed by "in 1861." The text continues: This portrait was etched by T. Johnson from the same photograph as that etched by him and distributed at the dinner given by the Republican Club Feb. 12th 1891. To the left of the log cabin is the copyright information and below that is printed "Artists Proof." Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
