Description

This print was originally published in Collier's, the national weekly. Vol. 42. no. 21 (13 Feb. 1909) in honor of the Lincoln centennial, 1809-1909. The artist depicted a beardless Abraham Lincoln, Attorney, on horseback riding into a town for circuit court. Two other men appear to be riding beside Lincoln. A young boy holding a hoop with one hand is in the foreground along with two men in top hats, a woman, and a young African American boy holding a basket all watching the arrival of the newcomers. In the background is a building that appears to be a courthouse with several more men in top hats standing around the porch and leaning on the pillars. The printed signature of the artist, Rollin Kirby '09, is in the lower right corner of the image. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
