Description

This color print depicts President Abraham Lincoln returning to his Springfield home after his successful campaign for the sixteenth presidency. Lincoln rides a horse and tips his hat to the crowd gathered in front of his two-story house on the corner lot. The printmaker took some creative license with this scene as Lincoln had not yet grown a beard in October 1860, nor did he leave his hometown to campaign. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum.
