- Letter, 25 cm, that Rayner has ""left North Carolina for good and for ever"" and moved to his wife's property near Memphis, where he hopes to secure a contract with the railroads to sell lumber. Rayner also refers to the faillure of cotton planting without slave labor; ""trouble, great trouble is anticipated"" with the emancipation of the slaves.
