Handwritten letter, 26 cm, headed Brooklyn, N.Y., dated February 28, 1865 and signed Joseph Mackie. Request for 'suitable employment in one or other of the Gov't Departments.' Mackie served as quarter master in the 11th New York Cavalry from Feb. 10, 1862 to Feb. 9, 1865 and now seeks civilian employment. He includes handwritten copies of testimonials from Thomas F Gamble, Major, 11th N.Y. Cavalry; James R. Wood, 1st Lieut. and Adjutant, 11th New York Cavalry; and Cyrus B. Gipson, 1st Lieut., 11th New York Cavalry. Autograph letter signed (ALS).
