Description

This colored postcard features an illustration of the exterior of the Lincoln Memorial Building with fifty-six steps leading to the entrance. Each step represents one year of President Abraham Lincoln's life. Green grass, shrubbery, and trees line either side of the steps leading to the Beaux-arts building. A bench is depicted on the path leading to the steps with taller foliage behind it. The caption is centered along the top edge of the image with the number V 475. The image is surrounded by a white border which has a handwritten signature of John N. Smith in black ink in the top margin. An address is written in the bottom margin. The postcard reverse is divided and has a handwritten note in black ink to Mr. & Mrs. Alva Bunt of Paw Paw, Michigan, on the left side. The number 18149 is printed along the top edge near the stamp placement block. The Louisville, Kentucky, postmark is dated December 4, 1931.
