Description

This portrait depicts a bearded Abraham Lincoln standing and facing the viewer's right; his left hand rests on a book on a blue cloth-draped table. He wears a black suit jacket, pants and bow tie. A red chair, architectural column, and swagged curtains are pictured in the background. In the bottom margin it reads, "The People of these United States are the rightful masters of both Congresses and Courts not to overthrow the Constitution, but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution." Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum.
