Description

This cartoon depicts three politicians surrounding a mountain topped with a statue of President George Washington. Each of the men is depicted as an animal with a human head: Andrew Jackson as a snapping turtle, Martin Van Buren as a snake, and William Henry Harrison as a bird. Jackson climbs down the mountain toward the "Pool of Corruption," or leaving office, and Van Buren slithers across the foreground coming into office. Jackson warns Van Buren to watch out for Harrison who flies above. Each man has a bubble of text above them. The print is labeled in the margin, "High Places in Government like Steep Rocks Only Accessible to Eagles and Reptiles."
