Description

This is a composite photographic print of all of the pall bearers for President Abraham Lincoln's casket on April 19, 1865, in Washington, D.C. A larger lithograph of President Abraham Lincoln in an oval frame is in the center of the print with a facsimile signature printed below. Beginning in the upper left corner of the print under the title of "Senate of United States" are photographs of six senators in two columns: Lafayette Foster, Conn.; Edwin D. Morgan, N. Y.; Reverdy Johnson, Md.; Richard Yates, Ills.; Benjamin F. Wade, Ohio; John Conness, Cal. Below the senators is the title "United States Army" under which are three photographs: Gen'l U. S. Grant, Gen'l H. W. Halleck, and Gen'l W. A. Nichols. In the upper right corner of the print is the title "House of Representatives" with six photographs below in two columns: Henry L. Dawes, Mass.; Andrew Coffroth, Penna.; Green Clay Smith, Ky.; Schuyler Colfax, Ind.; Henry G. Worthington, Nev.; Elihu Washburn, Ills. Below the representatives photographs is the title "United States Navy" with three photographs underneath: Vice Admiral D. Farragut, Rear Admiral W. B. Schubrick, and Gen'l J. Zelin, Marine Corps. Centered near the bottom edge of the print is the title "Civilians" under which are four photographs: Orville S. Browning, Ills.; George Ashmun, Mass.; Thomas Corwin, Ohio; and Simon Cameron, Pa.
