- Handwritten letter, 25 cm, headed Leavenworth, dated 'Jy 19, 1864' and signed Thomas Ewing, Jr. On the verso William P. Dole writes to Abraham Lincoln. Ewing's letter is a letter of introduction of Dr. Joshua Thorne asking Dole to talk with Thorne and go with him to see the president regarding the inclusion of the Missouri border counties in the Kansas Department. Dole then writes to Lincoln and endorses Ewing's letter. Autograph letter signed (ALS).
