Description

This lithograph done after the original by T. Welcker features a political cartoon titled "Jeff's Last Skedaddle." Printed below the image: "Off to the last ditch: how Jeff in his extremity put his navel affairs and ram-parts under petticoat protection." Union cavalry are shown entering the Confederate camp. Mrs. Davis is wearing hoops without a dress. Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederacy, shown wearing a dress and boots and carrying a water bucket is trying to escape. The handwritten signature of the artist T. Welcker is in the viewer's lower right corner. The lithographer's signature appears in the viewer's lower left corner.
