Description

This colorful calligraphic print features the illuminated text of President Abraham Lincoln's speech delivered at the dedication of National Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, on November 19, 1863. A wide decorative floral border surrounds the text. At the top in the center of the border is an oval portrait of President Lincoln. To the viewer's left of the portrait is an illustration of a log cabin with the date 1809 beneath. To the viewer's right of the portrait is an illustration of the dome of the Capitol Building with the date 1865 beneath. An illustration of President Lincoln giving this speech at the dedication of the National Cemetery at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, is in the center of the bottom edge of the border. Just beneath the illustration are the printed name of the artist, J. R. Rosen, Boston, and the name of the portraitist, A. E. Hilton. Two paragraphs of explanatory text are printed in the lower margin. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
