Description

This engraving of the family of President Abraham Lincoln was done from a painting by F. Schell based on individual photographs of the members of the Lincoln family. Since the Lincoln family never posed together for any artist or photographer, many artists used photographs of the individuals to compose a family scene for printing after Lincoln's death. In this print Mrs. Lincoln is seated to the viewer's left and to the right of President Lincoln. Robert, the oldest son, is shown in his military uniform standing behind his parents. Tad, the youngest son, is shown standing at his father's left side. Both are shown looking at the photograph album on Lincoln's lap. A table and chair are partially shown to Tad's left. A portrait of Willie in an oval frame hangs on the wall behind Tad. The oval shaped engraving is surrounded by a a thin line border.
