Description

Swatch of black crepe folded into a ribbon and mounted on a piece of white paperboard with notched edges and green trim. "Pies. of Linkens craip" is handwritten in black ink below the ribbon. The number "6" is cut out from another source and pasted next to the writing. A red and white circular sticker with scalloped edges is adhered in the top proper right corner. This piece of mourning crepe was worn by Elijah Bangs to Lincoln's Washington funeral on April 19, 1865. Part of The Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
