Description
This is a piece of sheet music for the song, “Col. Ellsworth’s Funeral March.” The cover is plain with a decorative black lined border centered on the cover. Within the cover, the title is printed in black lettering followed by a paragraph. “Composed and Respectfully Dedicated to Francis E. Brownell, Esq.” is printed below the paragraph. The text is surrounded by decorative scroll detailing. Publishing information is printed near the bottom of the cover. Colonel Elmer Ellsworth was the first commissioned officer to die in the Civil War on May 23, 1861. This piece of music was published in two versions. One version included a colored lithograph of Colonel Ellsworth as the cover in addition to the black and white cover.
